In recent years, Hanoi's urbanization rate has changed significantly with the emergence of many high-rise buildings, traffic works, and urban areas in all districts.
A typical example is the Keangnam Landmark Tower located on Pham Hung Street, Nam Tu Liem District. This is a complex of hotels, commercial, offices, and housing with a floor area of nearly 610,000 m2.
The project consists of two 50-storey luxury apartment buildings, connected to the two apartment buildings are two 72-storey commercial and rental apartment towers. When it was first inaugurated in 2012, this project was the tallest building in Vietnam at 346 m, with the 72 Sky Landmark observation deck similar to skyscrapers in Seoul, Shanghai or New York… Since the Landmark-81 tower in Ho Chi Minh City was inaugurated (461.2 m), Keangnam has fallen to become the second tallest building in Vietnam.
The National Assembly Building is located on Doc Lap Street, Ba Dinh District, and opened in October 2014 with the first meeting of the 8th Session of the 13th National Assembly. After 10 years, the National Assembly Building is still a special, large-scale architectural work, symbolizing the highest state power agency.
The Vietnam Military History Museum project started construction in 2020, on a total area of 38.66 hectares. The project is located on Thang Long Avenue, Nam Tu Liem District (Hanoi). The main building of the project has an area of over 23,000 m2, in front of which are two lakes of 2,000 m2. In the middle of the square is the 45 m high Victory Tower, symbolizing the year 1945 when the country gained independence.
The new facility of the Vietnam Military History Museum has many extremely rare war artifacts associated with characters, events, and stories about the nation's history. The museum will be a cultural highlight, a “red address” for historical education in the capital Hanoi, contributing to preserving and promoting the cultural and historical values of the nation and the Vietnamese army to the people at home and abroad. It is expected that the Vietnam Military History Museum will organize public tours from October 2024.
Hanoi Children's Palace is built on an area of nearly 40,000 m2 at CV1 lake park, in the new urban area of Cau Giay, Nam Tu Liem district. Construction started in November 2021 and has now been completed. The Children's Palace consists of two blocks, of which block A (front) has a theater, cinema, art club…; block B has a library, astronomy tower, gymnasium, swimming pool…

Hoa Binh Park covers an area of over 20 hectares in Bac Tu Liem district. This is a project to celebrate the 990th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi, and the capital was also honored to be awarded the title “City for Peace” by UNESCO. The architectural highlight of the park is the main entrance, which does not have a gate but is decorated with symbols. The main gate to the north, about 40 meters back, is the entrance, followed by a series of green islands. All newly planted trees combined with lakes and small structures such as bridges and wooden corridors along the lake create a poetic green space.
Viettel Group Headquarters is located in D26 area of Cau Giay New Urban Area, designed by American design consultancy company Gensler, inaugurated in 2021. This project started construction in the first quarter of 2018, constructed by Coteccons. After more than 1 year, the new headquarters building has come into operation.
The building is inspired by Viettel's logo with the entire roof covered in green, curved from the base to the top. Inside the headquarters, there is a capacity of about 1,000 people.
My Dinh National Stadium was inaugurated in 2003, when the surrounding area was still mostly rice fields. After more than 20 years, the land around the stadium seems to have disappeared, replaced by dense high-rise buildings.
In recent years, Hanoi has made great efforts to develop and synchronize its urban transport infrastructure system. The capital's transport network has been gradually improved, contributing to increased connectivity and economic development.
In August 2024, the Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station urban railway line will begin commercial operation, after 15 years of construction. This is considered a radial route, running from the outskirts of the capital deep into the inner city. The project is expected to help Hanoi traffic reduce pressure on vehicles, congestion, and reduce pressure on bus routes on the same route. With a series of utilities, the Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station metro is the priority choice of many people.
Previously, in November 2021, Cat Linh – Ha Dong, the first urban railway line in the capital, began serving passengers, connecting the city center with Ha Dong district.
The project has a total investment of more than 18,000 billion VND, the main line length is 13.05 km, the entire line is elevated. The starting point is Cat Linh station, the end point is Yen Nghia station. The line has 12 elevated stations and 1 depot, operating 13 trains. The project is designed according to double-track railway standards, 1,435 mm gauge, maximum speed 80 km/h, operating speed 35 km/h. The train travel time from Cat Linh to Ha Dong or vice versa is more than 23 minutes.
Thang Long Boulevard started construction on March 20, 2005 and was inaugurated on October 3, 2010, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi. Thang Long Boulevard is part of the Lang – Hoa Lac road project, with a total investment of 7,527 billion VND.
The project starts at the intersection of Ring Road 3 in front of the National Convention Center, and ends at the Hoa Lac intersection with National Highway 21 – Ho Chi Minh Road. With a total length of 29.264 km and a cross-section width of 140 m, Thang Long is considered the longest and most modern boulevard in Vietnam.
Vo Nguyen Giap Road connects Noi Bai International Airport with the center of the capital, is 12 km long, passing through Dong Anh and Soc Son districts. The project was inaugurated in early 2015, with a total investment of more than 6,740 billion VND. With a maximum speed of 90 km/h, 10 lanes running in both directions, Vo Nguyen Giap Road has helped reduce the time from Noi Bai to the center of Hanoi to only 30 minutes.
On October 21, 2012, the elevated Ring Road 3 was opened to traffic. At that time, the project received the attention of Hanoi residents as it was the first time the country had an elevated ring road. The road has 4 express lanes and 2 emergency lanes. The total investment is over 5,500 billion VND.
The Mai Dich – Nam Thang Long elevated Ring Road 3 opened to traffic in October 2020, with a length of 5.3 km, of which the viaduct length is 4.8 km, including a 4,426 m Super-T girder span structure and a 404 m steel girder span structure. The project is built with a scale of 4 lanes according to expressway standards, each lane is 3.75 m wide, two emergency lanes, two inner safety lanes, a median strip… This is the only elevated road section in Hanoi designed for a speed of 100 km/h.
Nhat Tan Bridge is one of the outstanding traffic works of the capital since 2008 when Ha Tay merged into Hanoi. The bridge opened to traffic in early 2015, with a total length of more than 9 km and a total investment of more than 13,626 billion VND. Nhat Tan Bridge has 5 main towers connecting the cable-stayed spans supporting the entire main part of the bridge, these 5 towers symbolize the 5 ancient gates of Hanoi with a thousand years of civilization.
Vinh Tuy Bridge Phase 2 is located parallel to Vinh Tuy Bridge Phase 1, started in January 2021 with a total investment of more than 2,500 billion VND. The starting point of the bridge intersects Tran Quang Khai – Nguyen Khoi – Minh Khai streets (Hai Ba Trung district), the ending point intersects Long Bien – Thach Ban streets (Long Bien district). The bridge is more than 19 m wide, with a scale of 4 lanes. After completing phase 2, Vinh Tuy Bridge (including Vinh Tuy 1 and Vinh Tuy 2) has the largest cross-section among bridges in Hanoi with 8 lanes.
In addition to traffic works and office buildings, Hanoi also has many urban areas and high-rise apartment buildings, helping to increase housing area for people.
The “transformation” of the transport infrastructure system and urban works not only effectively serves Hanoi's socio-economic development, but also helps the city become more spacious, more modern, worthy of its role as the “heart” of the whole country.
